A little God, a little faith…

What do you know? I know this is a plum bs life for most people, but fortunately they have god, only rich people are atheists, or at least comfortable middle class. That is because we marvel and wonder at the universe until we become banal and bourgeois. Once we are comfortable it’s easy to say there is not a god because it all looks pretty fucking grim from that point on. What is the point of working the whole life, and see no escape but death? But death comes not soon for the middle class with good teeth and an education under their belt and live on to feel the constant crush of materialism and its insanity makes one hate god more each day.

The poor on the other hand find miracles, that they count as a gift from some invisible and yet beneficent being who comes through at the right time just when everything is about to go splat. The rent, help by family, the car, neighbor gives a ride, the kid, somebody watches them for a few hours while you apply for a job, or work all weekend. These little kindnesses make no sense in a harsh world so there must be some explanation, and a nice deity works well there.

So don’t be so down on people who have God, they just expect things to happen, don’t see the universe as a giant cause and effect machine that throws down the good and the bad with no reason, no explanation.  For the atheist there is always luck, chance you know the old 50% rule, heads or tails. So there is no god for that, at least as far as I know. Which may seem more logical, more certain that a god who helps when the time is right, or for whatever or any  or no reason at all.

Amen and The End.

Happy 57th Birthday Michael Stipe — Waldina

Today is the 57th birthday of Michael Stipe. He and his band play a major role in the soundtrack of my life, I may have forgotten that a bit, but writing this and looking through the videos caused a rush of memories and chills. I love Michael Stipe. There even was a time that I […]

The fake & the actual choice Europeans face – by Slavoj Žižek

Yanis Varoufakis

Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 09.44.23.pngSlavoj Žižek, philosopher, friend and DiEM25 early signatory, writes on the DiEM25 site that Europeans face one fake and one actual choice. The fake choice is between :(1) a globalised, financialised version of capitalism that is run by a transnational technocracy, tolerates minorities and turns parliamentary democracy into an empty shell, and (2) a xenophobic, socially conservative, passionate nativism that invokes national democratic sovereignty only to forsake it soon after. The real, actual choice is between (A) a vicious cycle between (1) & (2) above and (B) a pan-European democratic project addressing the actual challenges humanity faces (e.g. the deflationary moment in our history, the inexorable devaluation of human labour, TTIP like attacks on sovereignty, climate change etc.). Real vs Money Incomes – the one thing we need to understand during deflationary times (with an illustration from Greece and Cyprus)

More devolution.

Yanis Varoufakis

deflation.jpgIn inflationary times, real income growth is always good news. However, in deflationary times, real income growth may well reflect a deepening recession (or even a depression). This is important to know lest deepening recession is presented as… economic recovery (as has been the EU’s wont in recent times).

How can real income growth reflect a deepening recession?

I miss you Christmas

Making the bed in the guestroom.
That’s where we keep the wrapping paper and ribbon box.
The tree looks pretty, but I’m missing something.
A pile of Christmas albums is on the coffee table.
Now like in 1977 I’m listening to Gene Autry sing
Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer.
Nana and Kevin Brice were still alive then,
so were Mom & Grandpa Art; Ray and others we would tragically lose.
I had faith in Christmas then,
that it would come with great celebration, joy and song.
It was dependable, it delivered a good time even when the gifts were tragic.
We were together, laughing and crying out the end of the year.
Purging the old and merging with the new.
I can still feel the perfectly cold crisp Christmas eve and morning.
Midnight in the car, gloves and smoke.
Presence and presents, real and imagined or hoped for.
Smells, sounds, tastes, sights, lights and holding it all closely.
I know we were full in that moment, goodness seemed certain.
Christmas was the confirmation of our dreamy hopes, our open desire.
This one day meant everything to me once.
And I want and need the knowledge of a certain good again.
A true and honest good to fill up my heart until next year.
That is what I need, for my heart to be full once a year.
That is what we need and why I miss you Christmas.

Waldina

Today is the 54th birthday of the President of the United States of America, Barak Obama.  I chose to highlight his style as most of us are aware of his biography.

OCCUPATION: Lawyer, U.S. President, U.S. Representative
BIRTH DATE: August 04, 1961

Best Known For:  Former Illinois Senator Barack Obama is the 44th and current president of the United States. Inaugurated on January 27, 2009, he is the first African-American to serve as U.S. president.

Why He’s A Style Icon

Barack Obama has transcended politics and become an American Icon by adhering to the very old rule of dressing for the job you want. Most campaign-trail politicians in America like to appear in jeans to show they are one…
